Disjointed ramblings of an obsessed listener…Shuffle Report – The Stars are Blazing….
Posted on January 28, 2012I had decided that in an effort to write about music daily, I would grab my iPhone, put it on shuffle and post and comment about whatever came up. No screwing around. No looking for a “cool” song. Should something come up that some people may find potentially embarrassing – oh well. I will own it. I will not keep that shit in the closet. Seriously…there may be a few gems in there!
What’s next? Shake, shake… Who doesn’t love a good remix??? The Killers – Read My Mind (Pet Shop Boys “Stars Are Blazing” Mix”)
When the Las Vegas band The Killers hit the scene back in 2004 with their awesome debut album Hot Fuss, it was hard to imagine that anything that came after it would be nearly as fresh and cool. At least, that’s how I felt. The Killers sounded like nothing else out there at the time, while managing to have a retro flavor that reminded me of the 80′s. This was especially evident in the song Somebody Told Me.
Fast forward to 2006 and the release of Sam’s Town. Although it received what they always refer to as “mixed reviews”, I thought the album put the Sophomore Slump worries to rest. It was a great album packed with insanely fresh, beautiful music and allegorical lyrics. My favorite off the record was Read My Mind. The music is dreamy and the lyrics…I love them. I still love it when I hear: It’s funny how you just break down Waitin’ on some sign I pull up to the front of your driveway With magic soakin’ my spine Can you read my mind? Usually, I find that a remix of a great song does nothing but diminish how great it is. If it is amazing in its original form – DON’T MESS WITH IT! Well, I was wrong when it came to this song. Around 2007, a CD was released that had 10 different dance mixes of the song on it. The best of those was definitely The Pet Shop Boys’ Stars are Blazing mix. The Pet Shop Boys and The Killers…Talk about two great tastes that taste great together!!! This mix only amplified how good the song was as far as I was concerned.
Go on…take a listen. What do you think?
